Clinical Lead – Mental Health & Addiction Clinicians – Toronto, ON

Bellwood Health Services, part of the Edgewood Health Network, is a nationally recognized, accredited Addiction and Mental Health Treatment Centre, with a 35-year history of serving Canadians from across the country. Bellwood is currently recruiting for a CLINICAL LEAD – MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION CLINICIAN to join the inter-professional program including psychiatry, family medicine, psychotherapy, occupational therapy and nutrition. In collaboration with Clinical Manager:

  • Provide supervision / guidance to staff individually or in groups as needed to support the continuous improvement of program
  • Evaluation of program content and make recommendations to Clinical Manager for revisions as required using evidence based practices
  • Oversee vacation requests and adequate coverage of programming/assignments ensuring broader clinical program also has adequate coverage – final approval rests with Clinical Manager
  • Contribute to and participate in annual performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to staff as required, elevating performance issues to Clinical Manager
  • Ensure onboarding/orientation of new staff including clinical content of sessions, client expectations, administrative processes, maintenance of excellent referent communication, outcome measures and discharge planning/summaries
  • Ensure timely completion of discharge summaries
  • Participate in interviewing of new employees
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new processes or initiatives as directed
  • Is attentive to and intervenes on any client safety issues that are observed. Adheres to the behaviours outlined in our policies and procedures that promote client safety
  • Other duties as assigned

In addition to the above your Mental Health & Addiction Clinician responsibilities/duties include:

  • Provide individual, group and family therapy, education and ongoing assessment of progress to Bellwood clients
  • Case coordination and communication across an inter-professional team
  • Timely communication with referral agencies, offering support, and guidance to clients and their families.
  • Competently manages clients with various addictions and mental health issues, including substance abuse, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sexual Addiction, Eating Disorders, Problem Gambling, and other Mental Health Disorders.
  • Deliver education sessions to Bellwood clients, as well as to public audiences and external groups as needed
  • Identify treatment issues and goals with clients, coordinating across broader clinical teams when appropriate
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation and follow-up of the client care plan and discharge plan and summaries
  • Complete detailed documentation and charting appropriately. Prepares reports or correspondence in timely manner
  • Participate in weekly meetings and consultation meetings of teams – makes recommendations on basis of the client progress
  • Orient clients in treatment to the continuing care program
  • Support a framework of accountability for clients in their recovery
  • Liaise with referral sources, aftercare providers, EAP representative, parole and probation officers, verbally, electronically and/or in writing on a weekly basis and documents same
  • Update families on an as needed basis, arrange for family consultation when needed
  • Engage in personal professional development, maintains appropriate professional associations, and provides current documentation to the Human Resources Department
  • Provide supervision for students in placement at Bellwood
  • Undertake Quality Assurance activities as assigned including completion of outcome measures
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum five-seven years of mental health and addictions related clinical experience
  • Master Degree in regulated health care professionals program
  • Current registration with a regulated professional College (i.e.: Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario)
  • Leadership training or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience working with patients with concurrent disorder and in residential settings an asset
  • Experience working with military and / or first responder cultures considered an asset
  • Advanced training and experience in CPT and DBT treatment approaches
