ALLIANCE Program: Support for LGBTQ+

Coming out wasn’t easy, and neither is struggling with mental health or addiction. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you may face unique challenges at home, at work, and even internally. If you are also facing issues with a mental health disorder or substance use, you want treatment from a team that understands where you’re coming from.

The ALLIANCE Program is a dedicated inpatient program based on the pioneering Project AFFIRM methods created by Dr. Shelley Craig from the University of Toronto. Here, you will be treated by compassionate clinicians who are either members or allies of the LGBTQ+ community, which will aid in your recovery. Your team will include regulated mental health professionals, such as psychiatrists and counsellors, and doctors certified to prescribe addiction medications on-site, as needed.

A Typical Day in the ALLIANCE Program

This is what you can expect when you come to Edgewood to participate in our ALLIANCE curriculum:
After starting your day with a healthy, chef-prepared breakfast, you’ll attend an inspiring lecture from others in the recovery community. Your morning will wrap up with a therapy session, in which you’ll learn various strategies for recovery, like CBT and DBT.
You’ll heal from the inside out with an invigorating, instructor-led workout and nutritionist-planned lunch. Then you’ll spend your afternoon bonding with peers who understand what you’re going through and learning new skills.
You’ll wrap up the day by attending a group support meeting led by a licenced counsellor. There’s no better way to end the day than by unwinding over dinner with peers and taking in the beauty of Edgewood’s verdant campus with an evening walk.
