The Problem Gambling Support Program is designed for individuals who have a substance use disorder and a concurrent gambling problem. If you have a gambling problem and do not have a substance use disorder, please talk to our admissions team to find out how we can help you.
Whether it involves lottery tickets, poker, video lottery terminals, slot machines, online gambling, or day trading, a gambling addiction is a serious problem that can result in dire financial and emotional consequences. If gambling has become a way of life to help you escape reality, we can help you.
In addition to the core addiction treatment programming, Bellwood’s seven-week Problem Gambling Support Program includes specialized weekly gambling sessions.
Individuals with gambling problems have several key recovery tasks and goals. Patients begin by identifying and acknowledging their dysfunctional beliefs and distorted thinking that help fuel their problematic gambling behaviours. Patients also gain an understanding of fantasy thinking, develop insight into their emotional relationship with money, and process their feelings of guilt and shame. Patients learn to develop a healthy relationship with money and be accountable for their finances.
Patients participating in Bellwood’s Problem Gambling Support Program live within a daily budget and are accountable for what they spend. They attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings and develop a robust recovery plan through our integrated relapse prevention program.
Much like the other treatment streams at Bellwood, patients in the Problem Gambling program are matched with a primary counsellor and a physician, and complete much of their treatment in a small-group format.
