The impacts of colonization, residential schools, and systemic barriers continue to impact the mental health and wellbeing of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities today. This includes experiences of trauma, grief, loss, family disruption, and disconnection.
It’s why, in addition to addressing addiction or mental health concerns, our treatment focuses on rebuilding trust, strengthening connections, reconnecting with culture, and creating a path forward.
Our approach combines evidence-based treatment with practices entrenched in Indigenous healing, cultural connection, and community support.

Why Choose EHN Canada
The Indigenous Healing Program at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo was developed in response to conversations with Indigenous patients, families, Elders, and communities who wanted access to treatment that better reflected Indigenous experiences and ways of healing. Rather than separating cultural healing from clinical care, the program brings them together—offering opportunities to participate in ceremony, traditional teachings, land-based activities, and the Red Road to Wellbriety alongside evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment. Whether someone is seeking support for substance use, mental health concerns, trauma, or intergenerational healing, the program creates space for recovery that honours culture, community, and individual choice.
