With Rahim Thawer, MSW, RSW 2SLGBTQ+ Consultant and Psychotherapist, Affective Consulting

And Kyle Kennery, 2SLGBTQ+ EHN Canada Alum,

And Kaos/Jesilo, Sober Drag Artist, Canada’s Drag Race Season 3

A Mental Health Commission of Canada report found that about 30 per cent of 2SLGBTQ+ respondents who consume alcohol reported increased consumption since the start of the pandemic, a 50 per cent higher than among non-2SLGTQ+ respondents. Join us on Thursday, June 1 to kick off this year’s Pride season with a panel discussion highlighting the Queer Perspectives on Recovery. Rahim Thawer, Kaos/Jesilo, and Kyle Kennery come together to speak about both the clinical and lived experience of 2SLGBTQ+ sobriety and its challenges. This panel discussion will introduce the unique health needs of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and how providers can further their commitment to diversity and inclusion by familiarizing themselves with the challenges this community experience.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Showcase the heightened experience 2SLGBTQ+ community members are having within the mental health and addictions realm
  • Understand the need for 2SLGBTQ+ specific mental health and addiction programming
  • Discuss how practitioners can seek out training opportunities to create and foster safe treatment spaces
