The Extended Care Program offered at Edgewood Treatment Centre, in Nanaimo, BC, is part the continuum of care provided by EHN Canada. Benefits of this post-residential-treatment program include the following:
- Increasing healthy community and family support systems
- Solidifying relapse prevention skills in real world settings while living in a safe environment
- Advancing communication and life skills to support recovery
- Developing a structured aftercare plan to assist in transition the community
- Developing a life worth
Program Overview
This program provides evidence-based treatment in a supportive environment that promotes long term
recovery as well as building the client’s self-sufficiency. Clients attend for 1-3 months post inpatient treatment and participate in the following programming:
- Minimum of 5 groups weekly (psychoeducational and process groups)
- Life skills, DBT/CBT skills, Interpersonal skills, relapse prevention
- One individual session with counsellor weekly
- One group recreational activity weekly
- Minimum of 4 self help groups weekly
- Minimum of 2 hours of volunteer work weekly
- Home / Community visits when applicable and recommended
- Access to one specialty group weekly as required (sexual addiction, gambling, disordered
eating, healthcare professional)
Program Inclusion Criteria
- Completion of an accredited inpatient program within last year
- Abstinence from substance / process addiction for 30 days
- Commitment of at least 4 weeks in extended care
- Some exceptions may be granted depending on clinical assessment
