In recent years, the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders has become increasingly complex—and this includes support for families. We are dedicated to expanding our programs to address these complexities and are proud to announce the evolution of Edgewood’s Family Programs. We have designed them to complement our continuously improving residential treatment programs, which that have been recognized for their excellence since 1994.
We are delighted to offer more immediate support to family members, starting from the patient’s admission date. The purpose is to aid families in healing, coach them during the process of their loved one’s treatment, and to ease re-engagement once their loved one completes our program. It is essential that families be supported, educated, and connected. We know that an individual’s recovery from a substance use disorder is significantly improved when family members engage in recovery of their own.
We strive to provide comprehensive treatment, support, and care for individuals and families affected by addiction. When the health and well-being of one family member is compromised, all members confront challenges as a result. No one chooses addiction—however, everyone who has been hurt by it deserves the opportunity to heal.
Introducing Our Three-Day Family Education Workshop
The goal of this workshop is to educate participants on substance use disorders and their effects on families. Learning topics include the following:
- What is a substance use disorder?
- Relapse behaviour and prevention
- The treatment process
Following the workshop, there will be four weekly webinars to complement the material that is taught in the workshop. The goal is to continue engaging, educating, and connecting family members.
This program is included in the cost of treatment and multiple family members are welcomed and encouraged to attend together. Lunch and refreshments are provided.
“Insite”: An Intensive Four-Day Intensive Therapeutic Process:
The Insite program is designed to take participants further in their personal journey of healing, awareness, and growth. Group therapy and individual exploration will help process experiences more fully. Learning topics include the following:
- Generational impact of family patterns
- Self-worth and compassion
- Communication and connection
- Relationship dynamics
We encourage family members to participate in conferences that are conducted in a safe environment and facilitated by an Edgewood counsellor. These sessions help all members realize the profound impacts that a substance use disorder can have on every member of the family, and helps start building healthy and effective communication habits.
