A Day at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo's Drug and Alcohol Inpatient Program
Every EHN Edgewood Nanaimo journey is a holistic experience that comes with the support and guidance needed to empower addiction recovery and healing. While every stay in Nanaimo is different, this is what a day at our Vancouver Island treatment centre might look like in our Core Addiction and Mental Health Program.
Morning
Upon waking up, you’ll have some free time to practice the recovery skills you’ve been working on. After enjoying a healthy, freshly-prepared breakfast, you’ll take a walk around our green outdoor spaces, then set your intentions for the day. You’ll attend an inspiring lecture from others in the recovery community. Then, you’ll cap off the morning with one-on-one counselling or by participating in a self-assessment group, in which you’ll review your goals and progress with your counsellor and peers.
Afternoon
You’ll shift gears with a hearty lunch. Then, you’ll take a walk, visit our gym, or attend a group recreation class like circuit training, yoga, or somatic movement. Next, you’ll participate in a skills group, in which you’ll practice DBT, boundary setting, and gratitude. Depending on where you are in your program, you may also work on relapse prevention skills. Afterwards, you’ll have time for peer interaction.
Evening
Dinner is a social affair at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo. You’ll digest by taking an evening walk. Then, you’ll attend an AA, NA, or SMART Recovery meeting to receive empathy and support from others in the community.

Aftercare is post-treatment support to help you maintain your recovery. Upon completion of this program, you’ll attend weekly group therapy sessions for one year with your fellow alumni to review skills learned in treatment, get support from your peers, and discuss any difficulties you are encountering.

What substances can you help me recover from?
We can support you in recovering from substances including alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamines, heroin, cannabis, ketamine, opioids (including fentanyl), benzodiazepines, stimulants, inhalants, and hallucinogens.

Is group therapy a part of the program?

Yes, individual therapy is a part of the program. You’ll see your primary counsellor at least once a week and have 24/7 access to support counsellors for additional 1:1 support

What else does the program include in addition to traditional therapy?
We believe in a holistic approach to recovery. Physical exercise, nutritious meals, art therapy, and spiritual and meditative practices are included in the program. We also support your long-term recovery through relapse prevention training and recovery capital skill-building, helping you to build a strong foundation for success after graduation.
