Bellwood Health Services

Depression, Bipolar Disorder, & Anxiety Treatment

Bellwood’s Mood and Anxiety Program (MAP) is designed for people who are having trouble functioning in their daily lives due to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or a combination of mood disorders, and for whom community-based support may no longer be sufficient or effective. Our medical team – including psychotherapists, social workers, physicians, and nurses – guides the evidence-based treatment you need to make meaningful progress towards recovery. And, while you receive treatment, your loved ones receive the education they need to help you sustain your progress when you leave Bellwood.

Our Approach to Anxiety & Depression Treatment

Bellwood’s integrative model of care is grounded in trauma-informed and patient-centred practices and incorporates various therapeutic techniques, including:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for developing healthy behaviours and helpful thought patterns.
  • Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) to manage emotions and relationships, implement mindfulness practices, and cope with crises.
  • One-on-one psychotherapy for an understanding and safe space for discussing personal recovery concerns and developing recovery objectives.
  • Physical health support including regular exercise and nutritional guidance to heal the body in addition to the mind.
  • Psychoeducational sessions to learn about a variety of mental health topics.
  • Mindfulness for creating healthy habits that last.
  • Mental health maintenance planning to identify relapse warning signs and develop strategies to support long-term recovery.
  • Medication assistance therapy, if needed, for providing the best opportunity for healing.

In the evening you’ll practice the skills you’ve been learning in therapy with your DBT group. Then you’ll unwind with some more physical recreation, like a volleyball game with fellow patients, and dinner to follow.
